Number and Quality
Each quality represents an exact number of half steps, depending on the numeric interval to which it is applied. The number of half steps required for each quality of each interval are listed below:


Saying Interval Names
When referring to an interval, say the quality first then the numeric portion (notice this is backwards compared to how you calculate these items!).
Here are some examples of interval names:
Minor Second
Perfect Fourth
Diminished Sixth
Major Seventh
Augmented Third
Perfect Unison
Minor Seventh
Major Second
Augmented Octave
