I teach flute lessons for students in the Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Spotsylvania region of Virginia because I enjoy helping students of all ages gain enthusiasm for music by learning about the flute.

Though I prefer teaching lessons in person, I am also available to provide online lessons when that is appropriate.

To awaken and nurture the ability in all flute students to be moved and inspired by music,

Provide the tools needed to develop the personal voice of each student, and

Integrate musical understanding with other subject areas,

All in a positive and encouraging environment that emphasizes

Self-discipline and intrinsic motivation.

Tina’s Teaching Mission Statement

Beginner

I love to help beginner flutists develop a good foundation for flute playing. We work together to learn how to use your air to make a good sound, how to balance the flute instead of grip it, correct fingerings for the notes, how to read music and practice in ways that help you count correctly.

The quickest way to unlock your talent is to take the flute out of the box.

Intermediate

I love my intermediate students because at this stage they have some level of comfort in basic flute playing and we can start to explore things that make flute music sound magical, like musical phrasing and vibrato.

Education in music is most sovereign because more than anything else rhythm and harmony find their way to the innermost soul and take strongest hold upon it

Advanced/College Bound

Some of my students have gone on to major in music in college. This is always exciting for me, and I take my job of preparing them seriously.

Not only do we work on advanced flute playing, musicianship, music history and music theory, but I also have programs designed to teach how to plan and track finances as a musician and how to plan events such as recitals. Basically we cover those topics that are not usually included in college courses, but that somehow you magically need to know as a working musician!

I do not consider my self as having mastered the flute, but I get a real kick out of trying.

Adult

Music is for everyone – that includes grown-ups! There are so many ways that adult flutists can contribute musically to their community, whether it is playing in church, in a flute choir, a community band, or performing in assisted living homes.

Whatever you do with the flute, I love the opportunity to help you learn to play with greater ease, awareness of your body, and to continue to deepen your understanding and experience of music.

If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.
